- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, beaten
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 2 large sandwich buns, toasted
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 2 leaves of Romaine lettuce
- 2 tomato slices
- Pickles, for garnish
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, marinate the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to tenderize and flavor.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge the marinated chicken breasts in the seasoned flour, then dip them in the beaten egg, followed by a coating of panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken breasts for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each chicken breast to melt.
- In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, and Dijon mustard to create the sauce.
- Spread the sauce on the bottom half of each toasted sandwich bun.
- Layer the crispy chicken breast on the bottom bun, followed by a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce, and pickles.
- Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
