Craving crispy fried chicken without the mess of deep-frying? This Oven Fried Bisquick Chicken recipe is the perfect solution! Thanks to Bisquick baking mix, you can achieve a golden, crunchy coating with minimal effort and healthier results. Perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, or special family dinners, this customizable dish is guaranteed to become a go-to favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Essential Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds bone-in chicken pieces (thighs, drumsticks, or wings)
  • 1 cup Bisquick baking mix (regular or gluten-free)
  • 2 large eggs (or ½ cup milk for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or cooking spray

Optional Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (for a cheesy crust)
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (for added spice)
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs (e.g., thyme, oregano, parsley)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat Your Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Grease the rack with cooking spray or a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Prepare the Chicken

Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring the coating sticks well.

Step 3: Set Up the Breading Station

  • In one shallow bowl, whisk the eggs (or milk) and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • In another shallow bowl, mix the Bisquick baking mix with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. For extra flavor, stir in Parmesan cheese or cayenne pepper.

Step 4: Coat the Chicken

Dip each chicken piece into the egg wash, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Let excess liquid drip off, then press the chicken into the Bisquick mixture, coating it completely. Shake off any excess coating and place the chicken on the prepared wire rack.

Step 5: Bake the Chicken

Lightly brush or spray the coated chicken with vegetable oil. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes for bone-in chicken, or 25-30 minutes for boneless pieces, flipping halfway through. The chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Pair with sides like Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes or coleslaw, and serve with your favorite dipping sauces like ranch or barbecue.

Notes

  • Use a wire rack for optimal crispiness as it allows air to circulate around the chicken.
  • For gluten-free options, substitute Bisquick with a gluten-free version.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
